Debating the Issues By Sandy Long Debating various issues with people who have a differing opinion has always been a favorite hobby of mine; it is how I learn and grow as a person. While some might say that I am very opinionated and set in my ways, I always at some point consider the other person’s perspective and at times adjust my thinking on a subject. To say that I have learned many things from these types of debates is an understatement. |

Lady Chemical Tanker Driver Copyright Sandy Long Truck driving as a career was not in Carol H’s mind when she was in high school. The girl whose father was a Yale graduate and whose mother was a graduate of Duke University instead was on the college bound fast track. Then fate intervened. Carol got a job driving an ice cream truck. She loved driving around neighborhoods and meeting new people and seeing new places even though it was in her hometown. |

Opinion: Women in the Trucking Industry
By Ellen Voie Founder and CEO Women in Trucking Association Inc. This Opinion piece appears in the Jan. 11 print edition of Transport Topics. A friend once told me to “lead from a position of strength.” This helpful piece of advice is a reminder that people don’t want to follow negativity — especially in these turbulent times. They want leaders who can offer them something positive. The late Edwin Friedman, who was both a rabbi and a leadership consultant, once defined leadership as “a capacity to define oneself to others in a way that clarifies and expands a vision of the future.” |

One of the Joys of Trucking By Sandy Long I have had it with winter! Enough all ready with the snow packed roads, vehicles sliding past and ending up in the ditch and with having to shovel out drop trailers so you can get hooked up to them. Also, I am tired of having to deal with fighting trailers away from docks when the dock apron is icy, pounding on brakes to unfreeze them and standing outside in below zero weather fueling. I am specially sick of the drivers both male and female, yelling at people on the cb for going too slow on bad roads. I AM READY FOR SPRING!! |
